The Naturalista Pregnancy Chronicles Vol1.

LOL… Hey guys! Ok I am trying my best. I have been struggling keeping up with work and home. Its been really stressful at my job, I havent had much me time to do anything. I just wanted to check in with you guys to see how you all are!

I am doing well, baby is doing well. I am 22 weeks 🙂 We are so very excited to be welcoming our little princess into the wold!! Oh.. and yeah I have been planning my wedding reception as well, and that is a job within itself right!!

But other than that, I have a protective style. My fav Marley Twists because a sista don’t feel like doing her hair at all!! LOL

I also attended an event close to my home at my alma mater Governors State University. The event was called the Mane Event and it hosted some of my other blogger friends on the panel to discuss hair. As well as many vendors and hair stylists in the south suburbs.

Transitioning: Dealing With Breakage

20121102_075814

So you are transitioning and you are soo tired of dealing with your two different textures? Dealing with two textures makes transitioning very difficult!! One part of your hair is straight, while the other is curly or wavy!

You are at your whit’s end!! Right? You are attempting to maintain the two textures of your hair and this can lead to breakage. Don’t give up or give in to the creamy crack just yet!! There are ways to make your transition to natural an easier process while combating breakage.

Tip 1: Moisture, Moisture and Did I say Moisture?

Have you heard of the line of demarcation? Well this is defined as the line where your natural hair and relaxed hair meets. This line can be very fragile so you must treat it with care. You must make sure to keep your hair very moisturized to prevent breakage at this point. I suggest finding a very good deep conditioner. One of my favorites is Edenbodyworks JoJoba Monoi Deep conditioner. This is a very non-expensive deep conditioner that gets the job done! But there are others, you just have to find the right one that works for your hair. If you find that your hair is always dry, you may want to start deep conditioning once a week, otherwise bi-weekly works great.

Also, find a good leave in and oil to use. Adopting the LOC method will also help with moisture.

Tip 2: Don’t put too much stress on your hair

I say this meaning, don’t overdo it. Be gentle with your hair, it needs TLC. Don’t rush during detangling or combing. Take your time.

Don’t try to do different styles everyday. I know you are reading the blogs and finding different styles to try, but in my experience low manipulation with my hair has helped me get to where I am today. During the later part of my transition, I did not do very much to my hair at all. A twistout on the weekends, then I liked to bun it for the entire week! This will help prevent breakage to your hair. Also, make sure to cover your hair at night. Cotton pillowcases without a bonnet is not your friend ladies!! You might not be sexy at night but your hair will be cute!! LOL! Use a satin pillowcase if you don’t want to use a bonnet.

Tip 3: Take your Time

Believe me, I know that transitioning can be frustrating especially when you are experiencing breakage. But remember to take your time with your hair. You don’t have to cut the relaxed ends until you are ready! 🙂 It took me 2 years to finally cut the rest off ( I did mini chops in-between).

Happy transitioning ladies! You can do it!! Don’t give up!!

My Adventures with Straight Hair

Happy Thursday Naturalistas!!!! The weekend is upon us.. WHoo Hoo! lol. So as many of you know I straightened my hair. I have had it straight for almost two weeks. Today is wash day 🙂 which I’m super excited about because this weekend I will be attending the Curlynikki Meetup In Chicago!!!!!!!!!!! I have been waiting for Nikki to come to Chicago FOREVER so this I can’t miss !!!

So on to my adventures with straight hair.LOL… Ok I shocked some people at work, this one woman asked where I got my invisible weave done at? Really lady? I got stares and comments in target asking if this was my hair or weave, and where could they get theirs done :). I have also gotten questions about am I “Mixed” with something because there is no way my hair could be that long. What? Why… ummm black girls CAN GROW HAIR!!! sheesh!! Oh and the infamous ” I like you hair better this way, why don’t you wear it like that more often”. (Not Happening son LOL)  So the good and bad comments, the ignorance and all I liked my time with my hair straight,  but let me tell you its BORING!!! I want my curls BACK!!! Cant wait to wash my hair!!!!

But I will say my stylist is THE BOMB and If you want her info keep reading. She is the only person that I will EVER let straighten my hair!! Magical hands. 🙂 But I have loved my time with straight hair but let me tell you its BORING!!! I want my curls BACK!!! Cant wait to wash my hair!!!!
